October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and since three very important ladies in my life are breast cancer survivors (my mom, my sister and my MIL), this is a cause very close to my heart.  As such, every year I like to do a roundup of items being offered by companies that support breast cancer awareness, and of course it doesn’t hurt that I love all things pink! Frames for Fall

My daughter recently mentioned that her eyeglasses (which she only uses for emergencies as she’s a daily contact wearer) are old, too small for her face, in need of an updated prescription and asked if she could possibly get a new pair. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that almost all of the girls in her school are wearing these very “cool” eyeglasses, even the ones that have perfect vision. In her defense, we have not updated her glasses in over 2 years (gasp). So when Warby Parker asked me to help announce their newest Fall collection, I thought it would be a great time to explore these new eyeglass trends that I am constantly hearing about and possibly help my daughter select a new frame. In case you are not familiar with the brand, here’s a little background on them, as stated on their website:

Warby Parker was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price, while leading the way for socially conscious businesses. They believe that buying glasses should be easy and fun. It should leave you happy and good-looking, with money in your pocket.

To celebrate Fall (my daughter’s favorite season), Warby Parker has introduced a new selection of glasses that are rich in color and unique in design to reflect the gorgeous colors of Fall. Living in Miami, we unfortunately do not get to enjoy a lot of the Fall activities such as, apple picking, or hayrides, so I figured she could at least enjoy some Fall fashion accessories, and why not a new pair of glasses?  Take a look at a few of the frames from the Fall collection:

Warby Parker Fall 2015 Collection

Warby Parker Fall 2015 Collection

As many of us know (and have encountered), finding the right frame for your face shape is not always an easy task. That’s why one of the things I really liked about Warby Parker is their amazing Home Try-On Program where you can select 5 styles to try, over a 5 day period absolutely free, to help you find your perfect pair. As you can imagine, my daughter was super excited with the idea of having 5 pairs of glasses delivered right to our door for her to try on, so this is something that we will definitely be taking advantage of.

Home Try-On Program.

Oh and if you’re still not convinced, Warby Parker eyeglasses start at $95, with free shipping and free returns. Additionally, they partner with non-profits like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need (you’ve gotta like that). So, after browsing through their website, these were my daughter’s top 3 picks:

Fall Fashions

Once again, my beautiful daughter decided to jump on the blog bandwagon and helped me out with this post.  We both love the Fall season and she particularly loves fall fashions (boots, cozy sweaters, etc.)  But since we live in Miami, we rarely get a chance to wear any of these items (although may folks here break out their coats when the temperature hits 70)! Browsing through Pinterest and several fashion blogs we follow, she came up with this great list of Fall must-haves, take a look:

Outfit

  1. Ray-Ban Erika Sunglasses, $115; www.jcrew.com Loving these sunglasses, the perfect accessory for this outfit.
  2. Anthropologie Split Shade Purse, $388; www.anthropologie.com Not sure this awesome bag is still available, but browse their website for many other beautiful Fall bags.
  3. Turtle Neck Openwork Solid Color Sweater, $20; www.zaful.com This great cozy turtleneck is perfect for a walk through the city, not too heavy, just right for Fall.
  4. UGG Bailey Button Suede Boots in Chestnut, $165; www.uggaustralia.com Does it get any cozier than UGGs???  My daughter and I love them!
  5. J Brand Mulberry Mid-Rise Jeans, $188; www.jbrandjeans.com Great looking pair of jeans, available in other colors too.
  6. Go On Today Drape Cardigan, $27; www.cupshe.com I absolutely love the look of this draped cardigan, and also the color.
  7. Stila Eternal Love Liquid Lipstick Set, $20; www.stilacosmetics.com I am a huge fan of Stila cosmetics and have a lot of their lipstick, blush and eye shadow sets.  I really love this set with the gorgeous Fall colors.
  8. Starbucks Toasted Graham Latte, available during the Fall at all Starbucks!  Not a fashion item, but who doesn’t love the Starbucks Fall drinks?  My new favorite is perfect for this time of year, graham and sweet cream, combined with steamed milk and espresso, finished with a sprinkling of cinnamon graham crumbles. Absolutely yummy, and of course in the Fall themed cup!

What are some of your favorite Fall fashion must-haves?  I’d love to hear….

Sanibel Shopping

Sanibel is one of my favorite places to visit for a quick, relaxing vacation.  Living in Miami, we have the luxury of being less than a 3 hour ride away, so we take advantage of this, and spend many weekends (sometimes even day trips) in Sanibel. If you’re not familiar with the area, Sanibel is a barrier island located near Fort Myers off the Southwest Florida Gulf Coast. The island has a laid-back tropical, Caribbean feel that also offers breathtaking sunsets, great eateries (my favorite being The Island Cow) and fantastic shopping.  It’s no wonder Sanibel was recently named the #1 family-friendly vacation spot in the country during NBC’s Today show.  We love everything about the island and while we also enjoy visiting Naples and Marco Island, Sanibel remains our favorite.  It’s so relaxed and cozy, I just love to spend my days on the white sand beaches collecting shells or riding bike through the adorable streets with the beautiful houses, and finishing off the day with a great meal and some fun shopping. And if you’re looking for beachy themed and preppy stores (think Lily Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines and Spirit Jersey), look no further. On our last trip it rained pretty heavily, so I had hubby take me from shop to shop (after all, I had to make use of my time there). Here are my favorite stores on this amazing little island.

This has to be the store that I loved most on my last trip.  Everything in this shop is beach themed, including gorgeous bedding, scented candles, bath & body products, clothing, home accessories….you name it.  Simply gorgeous, both the items sold and the store layout.  Trust me, once you walk into this place, you will convince yourself you need to by a beach house and completely decorate it with items found here.  Take a look at these…

So lately I have been coming across so many new soap, bath and body products stores (I have blogged about a few already).  And I can’t help it, I love them all.  On this last trip to Sanibel I came across The Naples Soap Company, offering all sorts of sea salt scrubs, bath bombs (I love those), olive oil soaps, body butters and shampoo and conditioner bars.  Their soaps are all hand made in the US, and they use quality ingredients, which are all vegan-based, eco-friendly, and never tested on animals.  Well, all of this sounds terrific, but all I know is that I bought my daughter a lavender lime bath bomb, which was literally…the bomb.  The scent was amazing and she loved her bath. I also splurged on a Lavender Vanilla Sea Salt Scrub, which I just fell in love with.

When you walk into Sand Castle Gifts & Gourmet you are immediately drawn in by the spicy scent, a result of their Sand Castle Seasonings, party dip mixes and seasoning blends, made in small batches on Sanibel, and sold exclusively in this store. This terrific little shop also sells many other Floridian treats like coconut patties, salt water taffy, Tortuga rum cakes, local honey and drink mixes in beautiful gift packaging.  They also sell adorable coastal themed home accessories and gifts such as tumblers, kitchen towels, mugs and beach bags.  You can’t miss this place.

OK, so I am super crafty, but sewing and knitting have unfortunately never been my thing.  I can barely sew a button on.  However, when I came across this beautiful shop, (the name of course caught my eye), I just had to stop in.  The store had an incredible and unique selection of quilting fabrics, sewing notions, cross stitch patterns, scrapbooking papers, paints & canvases, arts and crafts supplies and so much more! They specialize in high-quality cotton fabrics, including a large selection of batiks and tropical prints. And if you have time and love to craft, drop by and create one of their Make-it-and-Take-it Souvenir Crafts, available most Thursdays from 10:00-4:00!  I actually found some very unique Sanibel and Captiva scrapbooking papers that I had never seen anywhere else.  Definitely a place to make a stop at, especially if you enjoy sewing.

The Sanibel Island bookshop carries a large selection of books, many by local authors, of which I picked up a few and can’t wait to read and review on the blog soon.  They also carry some exclusive lines of jewelry, including Trollbeads, Kameleon and Lovelinks, as well as, Lindsay Phillips switchflops, Spartina bags, candles, toys and stationery items.  Definitely a very unique bookshop, as their tagline says “A Great Place To Be Stranded”. Also worthy of a mention is MacIntosh Books & Paper.

Also worth a mention, Simply Boutique, a few doors down from here, selling Lily Pulitzer, Spirit Jersey and various other accessories and clothing.

Jerry’s Foods
1700 Periwinkle Way

www.jerrysfoods.com

This is a charming grocery store, which anchors Jerry’s Shopping Center, also on Periwinkle Way, (most everything in Sanibel is located on Periwinkle Way), and it’s only one of two supermarkets on the island.  The shopping center has a pretty courtyard, which offers outdoor seating for the eateries and also houses some gorgeous tropical birds in some very large cages, which attract a ton of attention from the tourists.  You will also find some great shops in here, but the market is the main attraction.  Oh, and inside the market, there is a café, serving local favorites such as the Grouper Sandwich. But what cannot be missed is their famous Jerry’s Key Lime Pie, voted the best in all of Sanibel, and trust me, I tried it and it’s got my vote as well.

Basin Bath…

On our recent trip to Disney World, we of course had to make our usual stop at the Downtown Disney Marketplace for lunch and shopping.  I actually prefer to shop here than at the actual parks, so that I don’t have to worry about carrying around extra bags while riding.  We came across a shop we loved called Basin, an all natural bath and body products shop. For those who have read my post on bath bombs, you’ll remember that my daughter and I love these types of stores.  There are actually two locations on the Walt Disney World property for Basin. In addition to the Basin at Downtown Disney, there is another one called Basin White at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. The one we visited in Downtown Disney is right next to Arribas Brothers, near the by the clay pot fountain with the Mickey Mouse topiary, across from the huge World of Disney store, you can’t miss it.

Basin believes in producing the most natural products, containing no parabens, alcohol or mineral oils. Their products are not tested on animals and are made in the USA (both great things).  Try any of their unique bath bombs, shampoos, conditioner bars, or dozens of exclusive soaps.  You can also have some fun mixing your own bath salts for a unique fragrance all your own.  And if you’re a die-hard Mickey fan, the Mickey soaps and bath bombs, are exclusive items only sold at the Disney locations (there is also a store in Las Vegas). These Mickey items are not sold online, they can only be purchased in-store.

We also loved the bath bomb “marbles”, essentially, smaller versions of the original bath bombs, making it easier to try all the different scents.

Some of my favorite items were the salt and sugar body scrubs and I love that the centerpiece of the store is a sink where as many as eight guests can simultaneously try out all of the different products.  My favorite of course was the lavender scented one, it left my skin as soft as a baby’s.

So on your next stay in the Disney area, make sure you stop by either one of the Basin locations to pick up some of their specialty bath items.  The descriptions of the scents are going to be exactly how you read them. And if you’re not visiting Orlando anytime soon, the online store sells the full line and ships throughout the US and Canada.

Chairish Your Home…

I can’t really call myself a Mad Men fan, to be honest, I’ve never even watched the show (I know, I know)… So when Chairish (an online marketplace where people can buy and sell amazing used and vintage furniture and fashion accessories) contacted me and asked if I would make a style board using mid-century modern items from their site, I was surprised and excited to give it a chance.  After all, I do love some of the clean lines and designs of the traditional mid-century modern styles.

I was amazed as to how many choices Chairish has to offer.  If you’re feeling a bit lost when you first log on to their website, fear not.  Chairish allows you to narrow your search by style or location.

After browsing their website for a while I decided to have some fun and put together an inspiration board for my teenage daughter’s bedroom, with a touch of pink that I know she would just love. Mid-century modern is usually associated with browns and greens, but you can definitely mix it up with some color and I also chose to add a few gold accent pieces.  Take a look at the beautiful items I found:

  1. Mid Century Paul Mayen Habitat Floor Lamp; $1,400
  2. Sun Burst Large Gilt Wood Wall Mirror; $1,430
  3. Pure Love Painting by Linda Colletta; $600
  4. Hot Pink LSA Cylinder Vase; $160 and Tall Empoli Cased Glass Vase; $325
  5. Vintage Brass Elephant Bookends; $95 for the pair
  6. Mid-Century Campaign Style Desk Ivory ; $1,089
  7. Palm Leaf Hand-Crafted Waste Basket; $45
  8. Custom Tufted Square Ottoman 43″; $2,200
  9. Atomic Chair in Pink Floral Pattern; $809

One of my favorite pieces is the chair and my daughter loves elephants so I think she would really enjoy the bookends.  If you’re looking to redecorate some rooms in your house, or if you simply want to experiment with some different ideas and designs, I urge to visit www.chairish.com, and have some fun!

Toting Around…

Memorial Day typically kicks off the summer season, and this weekend many of us started our beach and pool routines.  I don’t know about you, but the one thing that sometimes detracts me from driving to the beach, as much as I love it, is all that stuff we have to bring with us. That’s why a few years ago I decided to look for the perfect beach bag, as large as I could find it, to help carry the million bottles of sunscreen, towels, snacks, and everything else I normally carry in my purse.  I also prefer bags that can be thrown in the washer (I’m a big Vera Bradley fan for this reason), or can easily be cleaned.  I’ve had tons of different beach bags in the past, as living in Miami provides us the opportunity to go to the beach a lot during the year, but here is a roundup of some of my favorite beach totes for Summer 2015:

Lilly Pulitzer for Target…

How can my shopping experience at Target get any better (is that even possible?) This is how…only 2 more days until the launch of Lilly Pulitzer at Target! I’m so excited, I’ve been a Lilly fan for many years, and I think it’s an amazing collaboration for those that enjoy the preppy look but find the Lilly collection a bit out of their price range. That’s the best part of the deal…Target will sell Lilly items at Target prices, but only for a limited time!  Doesn’t get much better than that. You can browse the entire look book online, which includes over 250 products for women, children, beauty, and home ranging in price from $2 (for a nail file) to $150 (for a hammock), but nearly 200 of the items come in with a price below $30. While the collection will be available in stores, some items will be sold exclusively at Target.com. And make sure to watch the campaign video, featuring actors Chris Noth (Mr. Big from Sex and The City) and Bella Thorne in the midst of a ’60s Palm Beach soiree. Take at look at some of the items Target will be carrying:

What is a Bath Bomb?

Have you ever heard of bath bombs?  I had not until my very recent trip to LUSH Cosmetics. Let me say, when I first walked in I felt like I was in a scene from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory!  The entire store is so colorful and full of displays, I didn’t know where to look first and I admit I felt a bit overwhelmed. I was immediately greeted by a very sweet and friendly young lady (who must have seen the dazed and confused look on my face), who wanted to educate me on their products. You see, LUSH is a company that uses fresh, organic, safe synthetics, and the finest essential oils. They also firmly believe in buying ingredients from companies who don’t test on animals. After she told me all about this wonderful company, I was still a bit confused as to what they actually sold, as the entire store was full of beautifully wrapped gift boxes (it was during Christmas).  Take a look:

Christmas Package Display

Christmas Package Display

They sell many items, shampoos, deodorants, hand creams and bath bombs, to name a few.  Which brings me back to the question: What is a bath bomb??

bombscollage_Fotor

Well, a bath bomb is formulated with the finest ingredients and essential oils to cleanse both the mind and body. Simply drop the “bomb” into a ready run, warm bath, watch it fizzle and dissolve in the water and release a lovely scent. I bought a few items as Christmas gifts, and a few for myself too.  They all smell delicious!  My daughter recently received one of their beautiful gift sets for her birthday, the Tickled Pink set, which among many yummy smelling bath items, it also included three different bath bombs.

Tickled Pink Gift Set

Needless to say, she was dying to take a bath and use one of them and when she did, her entire bathroom and bedroom smelled of the incredible scent. Our favorite is the Twilight scented bomb with lavender and ylang ylang oils, perfect for a relaxing bath and calming the body at nighttime. When you first drop this into the bath it starts to release a sweet-smelling foam.  The bath bomb dissolves slowly in the water, oozing out an abundance of pink and blue swirls that froth and bubble on the surface.  Take a look at this:

A dissolving Twilight bath bomb...

A dissolving Twilight bath bomb…

Who wouldn’t enjoy a bath a like this?  Oh and I should mention that the bath bombs are rather large, and many people break them in half and spread them across two baths instead of one (of course, we don’t). Here are a few more pics of the beautiful, sweet smelling LUSH bath bomb gift sets for your enjoyment!
